Every 6th and 7th grader at Kikarwali school received an XO laptop.
On March 24, 2010, India Foundation joined the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Foundation, TiE Sydney and Astha Vikas Samiti of Raisingh Nagar to start the OLPC India project. The goal: close the gap between people who have access to information and technology and those who don’t.
The first XO laptops went to Kikarwali village school, about 32 miles from Sri Ganga Nagar and 8 miles from Raisingh Nagar. Every student in 6th and 7th grade received a laptop. It was the first OLPC project in Rajasthan.
At first, the laptops were used for activities outside the regular curriculum, to let children discover new, more fun ways of learning. In the meantime, partners explored courseware and content for regular classes.
When children have tools like this, they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create and collaborate, and they become connected to each other and to the wider world.
