Adopt a Village

Uniforms, books, meals and vitamins for village schools near Raisingh Nagar, Rajasthan.

Villagers and volunteers gathered at an adopted village near Raisingh Nagar

India Foundation has adopted three very poor villages near Raisingh Nagar (District Sri Ganga Nagar), Rajasthan, to support children’s education. Our goal is 100% literacy in these villages.

Village 1: Bawari

Bawari is among the poorest villages in the area. A local newspaper wrote about the project on November 3, 2005. We have given uniforms to more than 200 students, and we provide books, school supplies, food and vitamins to support the school.

Village 2: 73 N.P.

We adopted 73 N.P. in August 2006. About 250 students attend the village school. Nayak Rajendar Singh, who has received international and Government of India awards for social service, was chief guest at the opening. Since then:

  • Village volunteers cleaned up the whole village and planted trees along its roads.
  • A computer was installed at the school, and a teacher was hired to teach computer skills.
  • Students received uniforms, school books and supplies.
  • Twenty sewing machines were bought, and a teacher was hired to teach tailoring to students and women.
  • Kitchen gardens: every house gets free seasonal fruit and vegetable seeds, with advice from a volunteer agriculture specialist.
  • A large open community space was built for people to meet.
  • Fifty men in the village took an oath to quit smoking, alcohol and narcotics.

Village 3: 74 N.P.

74 N.P. is about 10 km from Raisingh Nagar. Here too we provide uniforms, books, school supplies, food, vitamins and other school needs, working with many dedicated local volunteers. IF volunteers Harbans Singh and Surinder Paul visited on December 23, 2006.
